Getting a pool built right starts way before any water ever hits the ground. It starts with a clean, precise dig - and that's exactly what we tackled on this property in Oroville.

We excavated a 19x41 foot rectangular hole to a depth of 27 inches. That's a lot of material to move. We used a CAT mini excavator to cut the walls clean and square, then brought in the Bobcat skid steer to spread the spoils onsite rather than hauling everything off. Keeping material on the property saves the homeowner money and keeps the job moving efficiently.

Once the hole was dug and the walls were shaped up, we imported sand and laid down a 3-inch base across the entire floor of the excavation. That sand layer is critical - it gives the pool shell a stable, uniform surface to sit on and helps protect against shifting or settling down the road. Getting that base flat and even is one of those things that doesn't get a lot of attention but matters a lot for the finished product.

Out here on these rural Oroville properties, the ground can be tough - rocky, clay-heavy, and uneven. You need the right equipment and the right approach to get a clean result. Between the excavator cutting the shape and the skid steer managing the spoils, we were able to keep everything controlled and on track from start to finish.

This is the kind of groundwork that sets the whole project up for success. Do it right at this stage, and everything that follows goes smoother.
